About Us
"Grupo Llanes", with 74 years of candle making experience, is the largest producer
and distributor of popular candles (religious, emergency and dinner type candles)
in Central America and consists of three independently operated candle companies.
Alfonso Llanes Aguilar began operations in Nicaragua in 1932 manufacturing candles using traditional
methods and procedures. The candle industry was an untapped market in Nicaragua allowing strong growth
potential.
By 1968, the Llanes family created Centro Industrial, S.A. in Honduras expanding its operations
internationally. In 1979 operations were shut down in Nicaragua due to the political instability
ending in a civil war. In 1990, with the new democratic government in Nicaragua, Industrias Fatima, S.A.
was created to begin a new era.
To prepare for globalization in 1997, the Llanes Miranda family once again expanded its operations by
buying La Favorita, El Salvador’s largest and most popular candle brand since 1950 and formalized the
name “Grupo Llanes”.
In 1999, Industrias Fatima, S.A. created a Research and Development Team designed to formulate and
develop high quality decorative candles at competitive prices. This team has allowed Industrias Fatima, S.A.
to participate and diversify operations in the internationally growing decorative candle industry and
private label manufacturing.
In 2006, Industrias Fátima S.A. bought Mystic Candles International S.A. to consolidate operations
in one place. This strategic move enabled Industrias Fatima S.A. to reduce operational costs and
become even more competitive as well as solidifying our Central American leadership as the largest
manufacturer of popular candles.
